Veronica Maggio

maggio-undersida

Veronica Maggio is one of the most critically acclaimed and celebrated artists in Sweden. She released her debut single “Dumpa mig” in 2006, soon followed by second single “Nöjd?” and her prominent place at the Swedish music scene was a fact. She signed a contract with Universal Music and released her debut album Vatten och Bröd. In 2008 her second album Och vinnaren är… was released, gaining her success not only in Sweden but in all of Scandinavia, selling platinum in both Norway and Sweden.

Born in Sweden to a Swedish mother and an Italian father, Maggio spent a year in Toscana as a 10-year old, and that was where she performed in front of an audience for the first time. After moving back to Sweden a year later Maggio started attending a Music primary school and went on to study music at Bolandgymnasiet (Boland highschool) in Uppsala.

According to Maggio the years at music school had a huge positive impact on her. Being the only one in the family with an interest for music she felt no pressure coming from home regarding her music career, but could explore the musical world freely. She grew up listening to Mariah Carey, Nirvana, Nina Simone and Whitney Houston.

Veronica is often called a soul singer, and she writes the lyrics herself – lyrics that are often simple but poetic and precise, and with biographical tendencies.

In 2011 she released the album Satan i gatan, on which she collaborated with amongst others Christian Walz and Markus Krunegård. The album was a success and reached first place in both Swedish and Norwegian music charts with single ”Jag kommer”, and was awarded with triple platinum status.

Her fourth album, Handen i fickan fast jag bryr mig, was produced by Salem Al Fakir, Vincent Pontare and Magnus Lidehäll in 2013. The album includes a duet with Swedish singer Håkan Hellström, “Hela huset” and sold double platinum.

Veronica Maggio has won a bunch of Swedish music awards, including for example ”Newcomer of the year”, ”Artist of the year”, ”Live female artist of the year” and ”Swedish song of the year”. She has also won the Swedish Grammy’s in the categories ”Pop of the year”, ”Composer of the year” and ”Lyricist of the year”.

Veronica just released her fifth studio album Den första är alltid gratis, presenting a slightly more serious, melancholic and intense vibe than her previous albums. In August she is doing her biggest show so far at the arena Stockholm Stadion – a loudly speaking evidence for her greatness.
